Product Data Sheet
Boswellia – Boswellia is a naturally occuring form of anti-inflammatory which is derived from the resin of the Boswellia Tree, it is most commonly known as Frankincense. Boswellia has been used for its anti-inflammatory properties for thousands of years. Recent research has shown that Boswellia along with its active ingredient boswellic acid offers extremely potent anti-inflammatory properties and in many cases replaces the need for less natural painkillers like NSAID’s. Boswellia has shown to be particularly helpful with arthritis.
MSM – MSM is a naturally occurring nutrient found in small amounts in a variety of foods. Published research shows MSM to be safe and successful in promoting joint comfort and supporting a normal range of motion in animals.
The sulfur in MSM helps promote flexibility and elasticity of body tissue and helps maintain cell membrane permeability. MSM also acts as a powerful antioxidant, scavenging free radicals and aiding in muscle function and joint fluid production.
MSM (known as methylsulfonylmethane) is directly involved in the production of collagen, which affects the elasticity of skin, joints, and muscle tissue. But perhaps most profoundly, MSM does seem to significantly support flexibility, allowing for the ease of motion that helps your dog stay on course!
The PurforMSM used by ForeFront Canine is manufactured exclusively in the United States, where the purity is carefully monitored and controlled to the highest standards. Dog owners can be assured they are getting the highest quality MSM available.
Colostrum – As nature’s first food, colostrum supplies immune and growth factors along with a perfect combination of vitamins and minerals to support overall health. Colostrum has applications for every age, stage of life, and level of activity.
Although it is best known for its digestive properties, colostrum also contains a peptide called LMW that offers tremendous value for joint support.
Also, colostrum is the only natural source of insulin-like growth factor, which supports cartilage and collagen production. This helps cushion joints allowing for more flexibility and ease of motion.
The colostrum used by ForeFront Canine comes from a proprietary treatment process that is recognized and approved by federal authorities and international product safety organizations. Gentle thermal processing techniques provide assurance against microbial contamination, while protecting superior immunoglobulin content, specific antibodies, growth factors, and other valuable components found within colostrum.
Daily wear and tear of the joints leads to the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines which leads to the breakdown of joint cartilage. Pain and stiffness soon follow. Curcumin has a long history of medicinal use due to its anti-inflammatory properties. The science around curcumin has increased dramatically with over 7,000 studies currently in PubMed (database of scientific publications). It is believed that the benefits of curcumin in OA arise from the reduction of inflammation in the osteo-carilagenous tissue. Studies repeatedly show that curcumin’s anti-inflammatory abilities work as well as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Not only is curcumin effective, but it also comes without the worrisome side effects experienced by more than half of those who take pharmaceutical painkillers. ForeFront Equine is one of the first equine companies to incorporate curcumin in their equine product line. It is technology like this that makes ForeFront a leader nutrition.
BeneCellTM is a key element of the formula, and has the unique ability to support the production of new, healthy cells and aid in fast recovery. Another key element of this product is the use of egg shell membrane (ESM). The ESM used in our soft chew was hand selected due to its proven benefits.
A study with 57 dogs showed noticeable improvement in joint mobility within just 7 days after use. BeneCellTM includes several key components including collagen, elastin, and glycosaminoglycans (GAGS), which naturally contain glucosamine and chondroitin. Finally, the third key ingredient is curcumin*. We sourced a very particular curcumin ingredient for its proven success to support healthy joints. It contains antioxidants that help protect cells from free radical damage and supports overall wellness.
Egg shell membrane provides nutritional building blocks to promote natural joint health, stability, and flexibility, plus:
- Support for range of motion–mobility, flexibility, and function
- Antioxidants that support healthy joints by reducing free radicals
- A collagen and fibrous protein critical to cartilage strength and elasticity
*The curcumin used in our joint support soft chew is a patented delivery form of curcumin utilizing proprietary technology. This synergy improves the oral bioavailability and absorption of curcumin. There have been numerous studies with the ingredient demonstrating its ability to down regulate the expression of a series of cytokines, enzymes, and transcription factors involved in the natural inflammation response.
The biggest name in the companion animal supplement world by a large margin is glucosamine. Decades of clinical trials with glucosamine have failed to find any consistent benefit. There is very little clinical research on glucosamine as a stand-alone product to help joint issues in dogs and cats. There are only two clinical trials in dogs. One found no benefit for glucosamine and the other, which had a weaker design, showed little, to no, benefit.
Our product naturally incudes glucosamine as an ingredient in BeneCellTM which acts synergistically with the other natural nutrients in Canine Hip & Joint.
We designed our joint support soft chew without the addition of glucosamine (HCL or sulfate) or chondroitin sulfate. Not only has neither been proven helpful for joint support but the market is flooded with these ‘me-too’ products. All three of our active ingredients independently have been proven to be beneficial and are combined to create a cutting-edge joint support pet product. This product provides a tremendous ‘point of difference’ in what is the most commonly needed nutritional support for pets.
